Been charged after cancelling subscription

Hi all,
I had a subscription to an online DVD rental service. The subscription fee is charged once per month. I cancelled my subscription a few days before the billing date and sent all the DVD back. I got an email the day before the billing date to say they had received the discs back. At this point I naturally thought that that would be the end of it.
A week later I noticed my debit card had been charged for the next month's subscription. I have emailed them several times. They are saying that the cancellation request 'did not go through'. First they offered me next month for free, then they gave me 5 free rentals in-store. I have told them I'm not interested, I just want a refund. They say they do not refund.
It's not a large sum of money, but it's the principle of the thing. This could happen to lots of people and if they know they can get away with it, they will probably try.
Summary: Am I legally entitled to a full refund if I have been charged after cancelling?
Thanks.

Is this LoveFilm by any chance? They tried to charge me and told me I wasn't eligible for a refund until I quoted their Terms and Conditions and miraculously I was eligible suddenly. Worth having a look through.Male.

Just checked the T&C's - "You may notify Us of your wish to cancel your Subscription Package at any time within the Free Trial Period. If you choose to cancel your subscription during the Free Trial Period, you must return all Rental DVDs in your possession within seven (7) days of the end of the Free Trial Period, in the prepaid envelopes. Your cancellation is effective once you have returned to Us in accordance with these Terms all Rental DVDs that We have provided to you."
I cancelled and returned all the discs before the trial ended. The problem - I think - is that according to Blockbuster, I didn't cancel it.0 -

Hi LemonGrove - This is with Blockbuster. I have looked through their T&C's and I can't find anything about what they do if they charge in error. You would have thought they would just give me a refund - I mean I wouldn't have thought it's worth them worrying about £15.99! So far I have sent eight emails. They always respond fairly promptly but avoid answering questions etc.
I think a letter maybe more effective. Maybe....0
