How to close natwest accounts!

Three weeks ago I went to my local natwest account said I wanted to close my account, signed a peice of paper giving permission to close the account and returned my cards cheque book and paying in book.
A week and a half after this I checked my online banking - everything is still active. So I phone the branch I closed the account at. I get told you have to contact the branch were you opened your account. The man said he would send them an email and get the branch to contact me. Another two days pass with no contact. I start trying to phone the original branch then phone just rings and rings. This branch is miles away where I went to university so sadly I cannot just pop in. It was becoming obsessive constantly trying to sneak off for a break at work to try to call them so I gave in and wrote a letter saying please close the account. God knows where this letter has got in the postal strikes but the account is still very much active on my online banking.
I closed two accounts on the same day my alliance and Leicester account has been properly closed and I have received a cheque for the remaining 30p in the account! Why is natwest finding it so difficult?

This was the reason I moved my current account away from them. I received 3 different answers from 3 different people at Natwest. I managed to close a savings account at a different branch to where it was held but they did it only after I pressured them into it, they thought they couldn't do it but it turns out they could and this was the BRANCH MANAGER I was talking to! Natwest's staff training is appalling at all levels.
I was told I could close it in writing to my branch but I never got around to it and my accounts been sitting there empty for a year now.
After all my calls, not once did anyone ask why, after being a good customer for 10 years it's disgusting.0 -

You can close your account at any branch the home branch policy no longer exists.
The account closure form will be sent to a centralised unit to close the account. Depending on there work loads the account may not be closed straight way.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0
