HELP RE Iron purchased from ARGOS

Hi,

Just over a year ago, I bought a steam generator iron (Kenwood branded) from Argos. I now need to buy replacement filters for it and contacted the Argos Spares company. They advise that they cannot get parts for this iron anymore and that I should contact Kenwood to obtain directly from them.

I rang Kenwood and Kenwood also say that they cannot get parts for this iron. They say I should complain to Argos because Kenwood say that there is NO reason that Argos should not be supplying spares for this model anymore.

I'm really angry. Argos AND Kenwood don't want to know - each keeps passing me from one to the other and in the meantime I've got no iron! Surely just over a year of use, I shouldn't be expected to fork out another £80 for a decent steam generator iron because I can't get the parts! I would have expected to be able to use this iron for a good few years!

Who can I take this complaint to? I'm not sure if Trading Standards are the best people.

Can anyone advise me?

Could you ask Kenwood who else other than Argos will supply the items?

As far as I know there is no legal requirement for a retailer to stock consumable parts for products they sell.

i would go along with trading standards..... nothing on ebay then? i would have thought most filters for these would be generic...... they all look the same to me, just a different brand, then againg i am a male who is useless at ironing:o....as long as its hot and squirts water lol
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

    Hi,

I have looked on E-bay, unfortunately that link is for the wrong type of filter. It's a square filter not round.

I've tried searching on the web for it and drawn a blank. Seems I'll be contacting trading standards then!

Just the stress I don't need with a baby on the way in 9 weeks!

    GRRR!

You have better things to worry about than an iron then. Go and buy a £20 iron from the shop and forget about it!

Where are Argos supposed to source filters for this iron from if even the manufacturer can't supply them anymore??

    How about this? http://www.easyspares.co.uk/product.asp?c=24&c2=220&p=5138

The link to the Argos page is broken but i'm assuming that's because they no longer stock that particular model of steam generator?
  • Hi

I've spoken to Trading Standards who have said I have a claim under the sale of goods act because the goods are not fit for the purpose intended.

I bought the iron on the 26th of october 08....JUST over a year ago!

Jackieb thanks for the link - I think that's the one!

    Still going to complain "officially"!
