Not sure which forum this belongs in. I have to go on a training course on Weds and have been told by my company to bring in a colour photocopy of my passport for assylum and immigration purposes.
I dont have a photocopier, where would I go to get a colour copy done? Do they do this in libraries? I really am stuck on where I can get this done, my husbands work only has black and white copiers.

Hi,
yes you should be able to get it done at your library, but do you not know someone with a printer/scanner?0 -
Doh, I never thought of that! We dont have a printer or scanner but hopefully my sister does. Thanks, I will try that first.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I've done very well in the past putting it flat on a desk and taking a clear camera phone photo of the back page before for printing.... tho if its just for a training course could you offer to just take the original and show it to them or take a B/W photocopy but show the original? or do as above and email them the file to print (*some security implications with the last one, depends on how reputable/reliable the recipient is)0

No, its not for the training course, just that its a convenient time for them to collect in the photocopies, but it must be colour. I've worked for them for the last 4 years and am a UK citizen so lord knows what they need this for!
Good idea re the email and also taking a photo then printing, would be the easiest option for me.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
Blimey! Where are they holding it? Guantanamo Bay? Calais?
You could take it to your nearest Staples or PC World.
Both would do it for you if you ask nicely. Alternatively, just ask them to demonstrate a colour printer/scanner for you. ("How good a copy can it make of something like this, for example?") If you need two copies, say you want to compare two different models, to see which produces the better copy.
I have visions of anti terrorist and anti fraud police outside when you leave0 -
It's actually illegal to make a colour photocopy of anyone's passport - I work in libraries and it it clearly stated on the machimes that you must not do this. It amounts to fraud.
By asking a library worker or any other service provider to do this you are asking them to commit an offence.
Just thought you should know!

What is your source for this? I can't find any government issued document that says it's illegal, this suggests it can be done if you're happy that the organisation requesting it won't misuse it, and doesn't mention anything about colour and b/w being treated differently.0 -
Time for everyone interested to have a read of the HMSO Guidance Notes on the Reproduction of the British Passport (2003, so I hope they still apply!)...0
-
Rymans tend to have a self service colour photocopier in them thus avoiding the issue of not being allowed to photocopy a passport0

It amounts to fraud.
Ahhh yes the internet lawyers who haven't a clue are back again.
Fraud by definition generally needing some form of "Wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain". Is this clearly applicable to everyone who does or is asked to copy a passport..... no.
Ref the HMSO link yes it is in theory not legal to copy the passport ID page NOT as a fraud but as a breach of copyright, right up there with copying too much from any regular book/notice with a (c) copyright mark on it and also the very illegal practice of ripping CDs you legally own to put on your ipod etc etc.....
I don't think the courts will be unduly burdened with people who have photocopied their passport pages in colour just yet.
EDIT: Re-reading the 2009 guidance note it doesn't even bother to differentiate between colour and B/W copies anymore.... presumably as they've caught up with technology and aren't that fussed either.0
