Asking for the milage

I've noticed that whenever I get something done with my car, e.g. changing a headlight bulb, changing tyres, getting it brought home after I've hit a rock.
They always ask for the milage of the car. Is this a legal requirement and is some central record kept of every time the car is looked at?

Keeps things correct in case the apprentice decides to take it for a spin. Will also make you mentally note the mileage so you don't claim 500 miles have been added when in their care.
Sounds good anyway...:)0 -

Mostly it is for larger items and jobs, car service for instance obvious reason, new tyres - so that you do not go back after 10.000 mls plus and say you have only done 2000 mls and they are bald!!! Sometimes of coarse it will be time related, exhaust for example, I have only had this fitted for 6 months (really 3 years) and it is rusted out, so your receipt will be the proof.
No there is no central big brother dasabase recording all the light bulbs fitted.

I was thinking is it more to keep a record of the car all through its life to prevent 'clocking', so if it turns up for sale showing 30,000 miles and it had a lightbulb replaced a year ago and it was showing 32,000 miles, that something is up!0

I used to give them silly readings - like my 6 month old car had 230,000 miles when it needed a new bulb

Apparently it is something to do with stopping Fraud on mileage.
I think the scheme is RMI - I got an AA report on a car I bought recently and it listed all the times the car was brought to the garage for whatever reason - apparently they have to put in the mileag!
I think it is a good idea to stop people clocking the cars mileage back!Total Quidco earnings - £547.98
Everyone is scared of someone or something, everyone loves someone or something, and everyone has lost someone or something! BE NICE!0 -

I bet you will feel like a genius when you come to sell it and people think its been clocked.
Its done for a number of reasons
1) Mileage verification and to prevent clocking
2) Warranty issues on parts
3) Upselling on services etc
4) Prevent staff misuse0
