Common courtesy - is there really a need for sarcasm on this site?

Options
I am fairly new to this site and on a couple of occasions, having posted a straightforward question, I have been rewarded with one or two sarcastic or what I feel are personal comments. One such member even felt the need to state that my paragraphing wasn't correct. Is this general or are there only one or two sad muppets on this site. I have received some very helpful responses to other questions also. Is this an ego trip to make people feel small or are you are to help? I wonder what other experiences people have had?

I think with a site this big you are going to get a huge variety of people and many levels of literacy and communication skills. If however you feel a poster has overstepped the mark, you can always report them to abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

In honesty, that post was a little difficult to read in block text, but I hope you got the answer you needed anyway.

Sometimes people do ask for a sarcastic comment when they ask something so stupid or something that's been posted several times before, but I think that your question was valid.

I don't think people ask for sarcastic comments, but sometimes people find it hard not to give them ;)

Remember though Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit :)

As the person that owns the site says "there is no such thing as a stupid question". I think it says a lot more about the person being nasty than the timid newby who nervously asks what some people think is a stupid question.

If you are an expert on something you might think well everyone knows that but it's only easy if you know the answer. If you can't say something nice don't say anything.;)

That's nice nearlyrich, I agree it says more about the person being nasty.
miaxmia sometimes us sensitive souls get hurt we just have to get over it and grow thicker skin but it's hard isn't it when some people think they have the right to say anything they like regardless of how some people may feel but the vast majority on these boards are kind and helpful

There is always someone who, through knowledge or experience, has the answer to a particular question. The fact they know the answer does not make the person asking the question stupid.

The stupidity is in the sarcastic reply ... there are no stupid questions.

I believe that sarcasm is never called for, ever, when replying to a polite post. The only times I am tempted to use sarcasm is when replying to a nasty post in the first place, although I try to resist because that brings me down to the level of the sad person I'm responding to.

As said above, on a site this big we are bound to come across the smug, the sarcastic and the plain nasty. The best policy is to ignore their remarks and the general content of their post unless magnificently useful. But I would NOT thank them no matter what.

Most users here are civilised enough to respect each other's feelings and level of knowledge, and it's a pleasure to chat to them on this site. :)

Erm... sorry Quincy, but exclamation marks AND question marks are stop-punctuation and therefore call for a capital letter next, so miaxma is correct - and anyway, I is always capital, whatever form of punctuation is used...;)

Ok ok... I'm big headed, sorry...:o
