He thinks he must have put his details into a false link for
hsbc, and they took £80 from his account putting it was for rent
- all sorted with bank now
though who found out it had been done in London via a remote
terminal while he was at Uni in Manchester

Those fraudsters who target e-mail addresses with fake bank sites are the absolute bottom of the manure heap of life!
No consolation to your son now, but the best thing is NEVER to reply to any kind of e-mail that appears to come from your bank.
I would always phone them personally using the phone number on my bank statement (not one that the e-mail gives me) to double check any communication that purports to come from them.
Same thing with a phone-call ring them back using a number from your bank statement NOT one that the caller gives you!
Thanks for your posting, it's a timely reminder for us all - especially at this time of year when fraudsters will be trying all ways to get us to part with our cash while bargain hunting etc.0 -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0

Whats a "DS2"?0

Wow, what a lot of time saved that was - it would have taken so much longer to type "son" instead of "DS2".0

Very useful post by sra here: Abbreviations commonly used on MoneySavingExpert.com
Useful post that, especially this bit "Please remember that it's usually better not to use abbreviations as many users will not understand them"
Abbreviations are used for brievity or to save time, how much time is saved typing DS2 instead of son. It wouldn't change the context or sense of the post whether it was son1, son2 or cat17 would it?
Whatever, seems pointless to me, IMHO. (see what I did there?).0 -
Well as you didn't post anything useful, to the post about what happened to my Ds2 why post at all, some people are just so picky:rolleyes:0
