Customer Reviews on ebuyer and dabs

Options
Just a quick post:

How come the customer's are always ecstatic with the customer service, delivery, price and item they've bought, whatever it is!!

Sounds like something a UFO hunting tin hat wearing conspiracy theorist might think, but it seems to me ebuyer and dabs are adding reviews themselves (or maybe the manufacturer's are...).

Not that being one of them is a bad thing if that's you (don't eat me!)...

ahem..... don't know what you're talking about.

and I'm quite sure they don't filter the reviews so they seem more flattering ....

ahhh, knew i had it somewhere.

quotes of reviews from us site newegg
(dont have screeny's and the pages are long since gone, but these are entirely genuine reviews posted on the site):

    Celeron 766 OCed to 4Ghz - Newegg customer review;
"I OC'd this to 4.0GHz+ speeds, paired with dual 7800GTXs in SLi mode. I have 8GB of DDR3 RAM with 1-1-1-1 timings, and 2x500GB 10,000RPM hard drives. I get about 37,857 in 3Dmark05, and this is all on air cooling.

I highly recommend this CPU to everybody."

"got you beat with the OC to 57 Terahertz, 23 850 Exebyte 5 Quintrillion RPM HDs (SATA500), and 512 Terabytes of DDR900 RAM. And 15 512 GB ATI X950s running in Crossfire mode. All cooled with just heatsinks, no fans! Stays at about -52 degrees C. in the case too!"

:p take site reviews with a buckfull of salt is my advice :p

Not sure about ebuyer...but I've seen negative reviews moved from Dabs leaving only the possitive ones....related to the mitec mio 168 (or clone, can't remember fully now) they were selling a while back.....seen a few negative posts about it and a few hours later they were gone!!

Amazon do it as well. They remove reviews that "are not helpful". I guess that means "are not helpful" to them shifting more stock.

Because a fair amount of 'reviews' are written by the people who sell the products. You can really see this on Amazon with the marketing books, most of them are 'the best books every written' etc.

One mistake all these fake reviewers make though is they make the reviews just too good, everything is 101% perfect. But what they should do is say 'yes the book is great but I was disappointed with chapter 11, I felt the author could have done a far better job, but overall 8/10'

This is why I only ever take notice of the reviews that say at least 1 negative point however small, you learn far more that way.

Usually "over flowery" wording gives away the "review" is not written by a genuine customer but, mostly, I found that Ebuyer's comments seem genuine enough.

Me .... I've used Ebuyer for quite some time.

Personal story .... they are good when you buy something (cheap, efficient, reliable etc.). I retuned one hard drive I just didn't need. Perhaps a complicated returns system but they refunded everything ex. the return postage. No problem.

However, on their attitude to helping by "going the extra mile", and returns outside warranty (3 days in my case), they are, in my experience, awful.

So ... yes, buy something but, if it's going to go wrong, make sure it goes wrong INSIDE the warranty period or you will probably be very sorely disappointed.

I used to work for one of the rivals of Dabs, and some of the naughty product marketing people used to submit their own reviews. Thankfully the head of the web department used to pull those reviews as they make the whole idea of a review pointless. We also used to have people who worked for the manufacturer do reviews, but not give full marks.

The Amazon.com reviews for Tim Hines' version of 'War of the Worlds' on DVD used to be highly amusing, as it appeared that most of them must have been written by people connected to the movie. From what I've seen of the movie it's one of the worst ever made, but Amazon's page was always full of glowing reviews, many using similar wording and a similar writing style.

On the plus side, I think Amazon did finally pull a lot of those reviews after complaints, but hyping your own products in 'customer reviews' seems to be common these days.
