Paying via credit card

We bought a table today on eBay and my sister was'nt sure if they money would go directly into the sellers paypal account if I paid via credit card or if they would make contact.

I thought that you just choose your method of payment and fill in the details and thats it!

A bit of help required here.

Thanks,

If you are paying with a credit card via PayPal then you would just select that credit card when it says source of funds (I think). The money would then go to the sellers PayPal account like normal.

OK. In the auction the seller states that they don't charge paypal fees and they provided a Paypal email address. However, when I go through eBay to 'pay' now it only gives me three option 1. Cheque 2. Credit card 3. Postal Order.

I think that I could send them a payment into their email address but wouldnt that be outside ebay and if somehting went wrong then ebay would not be laible? Am I right?

Could you post the auction number?

Does it not feature the PayPal logo?

Are you buying from the USA by any chance?

If paypal was shown as an option on the auction properly then it should show up as the first option on the invoice.

However if the email address is shown in the body of the auction and the seller mentions only there that they take paypal you may have problems. Firstly, they may be trying to operate a basic account and so will refuse a CC payment (however I would argue that one if they don't make that clear in the text). More worryingly though it is a classic scam to hijack an account embed your own paypal address into the auction text and ask for payment direct.

Tables are not usually the subject of scams unless they happen to be at the very expensive end of the market, but the way you describe the situation something is not right.

How much is the transaction for and has the seller sold simlar items before?

One other thought, if they are a trader they may have a merchant account for credit card transactions, but that still doesn't explain where paypal went on the invoice.
