JSA do they need to know?

Hi, recently I was made redundant and put my claim in for jsa which I now get for me and my wife, I took all my details in ie: my/her bank stuff isa's the lot mortgage details this was all they wanted to see ( they did not ask for my redundancy amount so did not think to say anything as I tought it exempt)? anyway I have used my redundancy to clear the remaining mortgage do I need to tell jsa people about this and will it effect my jsa weekly amount I get?
reason I am asking is at the start of the claim I had roughly 3 k left to pay but know I dont as stated I used my redundancy to clear it off.
thanks

The law requires you, upon making a claim, to provide all evidence requested by a form authorised by the secretary of state. You did this.
The law also requires you to inform the SoS of any change in your circumstances that you could reasonably believe would affect your entitlement.
I don't think it's unreasonable to not inform her that you have spent the money she did not show an interest in. Had a drink though so probably haven't thought this through0 -
:beer:ha Cheers..Thanks for the reply, I think I will wait for a more sober reply before I decide, Although with what you did said about
"The law also requires you to inform the SoS of any change in your circumstances that you could reasonably believe would affect your entitlement."
personally no in my opinion I do not think it should affect my claim as I see it like this, If I did not own my own home then the government would pay my rent leaving me with no rent to pay. when I put in my claim I said I will not be expecting anyone to pay my mortgage or any part of the interest so therefore I was saving them money? in the mean time I have decided to pay off the mortgage therefore leaving me with no bill (no rent) which is the same situation which I would have been in if I lived in a council house.
I have worked for the entire time of leaving school and worked hard to pay it off and do not see why I should be penalized for paying it off?The law requires you, upon making a claim, to provide all evidence requested by a form authorised by the secretary of state. You did this.

In that case it shouldn't affect your entitlement or the amount you receive as any savings under £6K (I think, unless changed recently) are disregarded.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
hi, thanks for that info I did know about that bit when I put the claim in but I need to know weather I need to tell them about the remaining mortgage being paid~Chameleon~ wrote: »In that case it shouldn't affect your entitlement or the amount you receive as any savings under £6K (I think, unless changed recently) are disregarded.0

How much were your savings altogether including the redundancy payment?0

Okay, now that I have sobered
I agree with myself, if the money had no material affect on the claim whilst it existed, neither will it now.
If you were not receiving any help with housing costs, then they don;t need to know about your mortgage.0 -
I think around 8k but they did not ask anything about the redundancy which was (3600 which left me with around 4400 in the bank as savings) so I used it to clear the mortgage. I did not think they was aloud to use a redundancy payment against you.alwaysonthego wrote: »How much were your savings altogether including the redundancy payment?0
