I am being drawn towards buying a Topfield PVR. Is the Topfield TF5800T as good as everyone seems to make out or should I buy another cheaper make? I need to sort something out before the World Cup starts. Thanks.

Hi
I've had the Topfield 5800 for about 9mths now, excellent pvr, amazing what it can do. Excellent quality and build and the picture is crystal clear/sharp.
The best £250 I've spend in a long time, wouldn't do without it now, and no Sky subscription.
Have you looked at their forum, if you need to know anything about the Toppy, just ask here, plus all the software you'll need, if you want to connect it to your pc and burn files to disc.

Can't speak for Topfield but it certainly sounds good.
Me .... I've used Humax stuff for a couple of years now.All excellent and good prices. Oddly, due to a personal issue with me, I have dealings with DeafEquipment.co.uk. They supply PVRs (including the Humax) cheaper/more reliably than anywhere else in the UK.

Or maybe others know differently;) ........0 -
Have a look at the Panasonic TUCTH100. I've been reading around and it does very well, noticeably in What Hifi - Sound and Vision, it's their current favourite. Plus you can pick it up for about £150. Will be getting one myself in the next week or two.

Topfield TF5800T is the best!!! I have had a Humax (8000t) and it was great, but you had to tell it what to record.
With the toppy, you can load programs onto it for extra functionality, Like Mystuff, you just tell it once you like a program (e.g. topgear) and from then on it will record every episode on its own! Like Sky+ without the £££
Also I can recomend superfi, for great price and customer serviceTo alcohol! The cause of... and solution to... all of life's problems!:beer:0 -
We have the Humax 9200 and I love it had it since November last year. We have 2 pvrs a Humax 8000t and also a fox-t all are great freeview boxes and the 9200t has the ability for twin tuners and a massive 160gb hard disc.0

I've had my Topfield TF5800T for seven trouble-free months.
The Topfield wins out for me over the Humax PVR9200T, due to having 'chase-play' and the ability to set up to 70 timer recordings.
For comparisons between different models currently available click here.0 -
Theres talk of the Humax having chaseplay and auto padding in future firmware releases, there is one taken place next week

The Humax 9200T now has a new update. It also incorporates chaseplay and autopadding (for programs that start early and or end late). This can now be done over the air or via online with pc attached and a null modem cable. There is also a new loader apparently and have heard that the pvr boots up faster with this, but you can only use the new loader via online with appropiate pc and cable.0
