Taking Uk car abroad

Hi I wonder if anyone can help?

I would like to take a car registered in the UK to one of the EU countries where I have a holiday apt. I would like to keep the car there for my family and friends to use when on hols. So does anyone know what the rules are? If I drove it there do I need a valid insurance, tax and mot when over there? (I know I cant register the car there as it is the right hand drive) so it will stay registered in the UK. I assume I will need to buy car insurance in that country, but what are othere technicalities?

Many thanks

You can only keep it there for 6 months before you have to register it.

Which EU country won't let you register a rhd car?

There is no restriction on registering a lhd car here and I would have thought the EU might have the same rules throughout.

Why not just buy a car locally?

If it's going there permanently then it's being exported and you'll have to complete the paperwork for that. You can't just drive it there as if you're taking it on holiday.

If it is going there permanently then by far the best thing to do would be to sell the car in the UK then use the money to buy another at the location.

Well she'd start to have problems eventually. At the very least she would have to bring it back to the UK to be MOT'ed and taxed once per year.
