I am sure they will apologise and either refund or ask you to choose a new pack... Tesco are very obliging when it comes to mistakes on their part...

Tesco's will refund you no problem as long as you have the receipt. BTW best before date doesn't mean the produce is out of date and is different from the sell by date. So if it does have a sell by date and you bought it on or before this then in reality Tesco have done nothing wrong.

    Huh?

They will give you a refund or swap for another one. I don't know what 'double your money' thing you're thinking of..unless your Tesco has a Play Your Cards Right section :D

  • Double the difference is if they overcharge for an item.

Incidently, did you really expect someone to answer when you phoned the store on a Sunday night?

The butchery manager in my local Tesco told me that it is Tesco policy to replace and also refund the full cost if they accidentally sell you something after its use by date. This was when I took back a couple of packs of sausages that I had bought for a barbeque that I intended to have the same day - when I took the packs out of the fridge to cook I realised that they were 3 days past their date. I wasn't expecting anything other than a refund and was surprised when I got both - this was some time ago and policy may have changed (even if he was right at the time!).

24 hour Tesco stores are only open 24 hours Monday to Friday. Sunday trading restricts them to 6 hours on Sunday

The OP's muffins have a best-before date on them, though, not a use-by date.

Personally, unless I was going back anyway, I'd have just eaten them, for the sake of a couple of days. They'd have been fine.

I suspect the OP might be up here in Scotland. 24 hour Tesco stores are open 24 hours 7 days a week up here. :)
