This is hilarious. Lloyds wasn't "bailed out", it was the Halifax that was "bailed out" and then taken over by Lloyds.

No, Lloyds took over HBOS first (when HBOS was in trouble), then the new Lloyds Banking Group needed to be bailed out later.

I read this in today's DM but it's also online. 2 council taxes for 1 person.

That would imply she's not re-let the barn conversion, and it might be reasonable not to get a tenant in if you're trying to sell up.

I see it as another possible downside to any buyer of the farm (2 council taxes to be paying)... which could be offset with a tenant of course. Yet the full asking price for her farm was still £1,750,000 last time I checked. Oh and in the article she complains how her lane hasn't been gritted so can't get down it in her BMW... which is something a new owner or tenant would have to also endure in snowy winters.
‘Dear Mrs Jones,’ it read. Argh! Why am I always called Mrs? Calm. Calm.
‘You did not return the form we sent asking whether you are still living on your own and because of this we have ended your 25 per cent single person discount, backdated to July 2009.’
I rang them up. A woman answered. I told her I was very upset, and read out the letter to her.
‘You didn’t send the form back to us,’ she said.
‘Yes, but I filled in a form last year, and in January I wrote to you, and you sent a little man out, and he inspected my new barn conversion and gave me a rating for it. And so I pay two lots of council tax, by direct debit, which you love, and I am just one person. I didn’t think I had to return the new form.’

I don't think that most people buying £1.75m houses are that worried about Council Tax. Band H (highest band) council tax is only double that for the average house and yet the house price to average multiple for what she's selling is much higher still. Anyone buying Liz's place would be either looking to rent out the smaller property or using it as a family annexe. Any annexe with a separate front door, even in a modest property would be subject to 2 x council tax and its those people who are harder hit by issues such as this.

Liz's problem is that she didn't think anything through. Even if she's having to find about £400-500 per month for council tax across two properties, this is still relatively small beer compared to the other costs. I'm still not feeling very sorry for her.

    Isn't she dead yet?

I don't quite know why, but this image springs to mind:

Interestingly the "best-rated" comments are the ones slagging the article off. Usually its the other way around on the Mail.

She did an terrible piece this week on the Joanna Yates murder, retracing her last steps. She revisited the pub where Jo spent her last meal, and complained about the food and quality of the wine list; she states that the fact that Jo bought a "Tesco Finest" pizza showed that she was "aspiring to a better life"; and she caused a queue on the Clifton Suspension Bridge by trying to use a button rather 50p to pay the toll. Just an awful, awful woman.

Yes, an interesting phenomenon, a second rate, irritating, ignorant, thickie with personal problems actually being paid to be stupid and annoying in public. And the more stupid, provocative, obnoxious and idiotic she is the more attention she gets. There’s universal masochism at work in which readers enjoy hating her and being annoyed by her crass, inane, rude fatuity.

Could anyone do it? Or does it actually require a certain unusual debility to be a numpty in public? Yes, you have to be severely messed up to be asked back when you’re as relentlessly pith poor as this chump. If I wrote utter rubbish like hers it would just be chucked in the bin.

So how does she achieve this rare feat of being relentlessly, repeatedly, utterly dreadful and appalling but nevertheless allowed to do yet more? Well, it’s a rare collection of personality defects and failures presented in a deliberately annoying manner. It’s a formula. Make some stupid banal observations, be rude about it and be rude to various people and bingo, stupid filth that people read. And then react to. One of the keys to it is to annoy people sufficiently that you get their attention but not too much and not so inflammatory and so much that they freak out and start complaining. So she rarely does any hot topics and mostly sticks to banal simple low level stuff.

Trying to hitch a ride on the Jo Yeates tragedy looks like possibly being a new direction for the twit. Perhaps she’s exhausted writing about what a moron she is herself and sneering at z grade people that no one’s ever heard of or cares about. So what’s left? Oh, ok, lob her a bone to chew on, get the weirdo to do something about something topical. Yeah, I know what, see if she can make a nuisance of herself about something in the news. Well, what is there? Oh yeah, there’s that murder in Bristol, send her down there, I’m sure she can make an utter fool of herself about that, just tell her to do some original research or something, I’m sure she’ll put her foot in her mouth, easy peasy. Sorted, another 1,000 words of superficial rude inane utter rubbish to fill up space with and annoy the plebs with. Trebles all round.

Actually, pretty sure I could do it. And live with the hate. Or get a pseudonym. If the mail want a replacement I'll do it for 10% less (my debts are more manageable...but I can hype them up...)
