I read Liz Jones' columns (I confess, it's a closet addiction
) and she did mention a slightly sub prime mortgage a couple of years back when she sold her million pounder in Islington and bought a million pounder+a bit farm on Exmoor.
She writes about £1000 designer dresses bought for one date or M+S (human) food for her rescue dogs/cats, out of hours vet fees for rescue chickens and stray dogs sleeping on Nicole Farhi blankets plus she leads a very glamourous, well paid life.
Now she needs DFW advice http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1224390/LIZ-JONES--10-000-Of-course-lend--just-69-first.html Plenty of comment beneath the article.
I can't beleive she is actually so up to her eyes in it to be honest. She must pull in 150kpa easily. No Hubby, no kids either...just a one person household.
So made me feel better at least.....:D I had so much angst about getting indebted a few years back.
Pulled a quote from it...sorry for the length.:o

So I find myself at the bottom of the money pit, cowering at cash machines, praying the computer will say yes, and trying to persuade someone, anyone, to throw me a rope.
When you need money and you have, like me, a shocking credit rating, you find yourself remarkably susceptible.
Having exhausted my overdraft and credit cards, I turned to those adverts on the internet that promise they will say ‘Yes!’ to your loan application, no matter if you have arrears, county court judgments or no job.
I completed an application online. A representative soon called me on my mobile. ‘I have to go through your application in more detail,’ he said. As we went through my debts, I felt ashamed, stupid.
‘Have you got a pension?’
‘Um, no.’
This interview took about ten minutes. He then told me my application had been successful, but before he could put me through to the next person, I had to pay a one-off fee of £69.
‘Really, oh God, do I have to?’
‘Yes.’
So I did. I was then put through to someone else. He seemed to type for a while and told me that he had found a lender, but that the loan would need a guarantor.
‘But I don’t have a guarantor,’ I squeaked. I was told there were no other lenders.
‘But your company said it could get me a loan, even with a bad rating! You haven’t done that, even though I have paid you £69!’
'No, we did get you a loan. You turned it down.’
Computer says... Some people are scared of checking their balance
I slammed the phone down. They keep leaving me voicemails, and sending me emails telling me my money is there waiting for me, if only I would phone them back.
Having been burned by the online loan sharks, I tried again, down more conventional routes. I applied for three credit cards, from NatWest, Barclays and Bank of America.
The first two turned me down, but the Bank of America gave me £10,000, just like that, with lots of lovely and very useful credit-card cheques.
I have no idea what interest I am paying for this £10,000 but when you are desperate, you just don’t care.
You always think things will be different next week, next month, next year. You start to yearn that you will be struck down in your 60s because you know that otherwise you will be homeless, unable to afford to switch on light bulbs, or take a hot bath.

She works for the Daily Mail, I feel the same level of pity as I do for bankers. If she ever has a LBM and comes here, maybe I'll feel differently.

I hate the Daily Mail and everything it stands for but I love Liz Jones and read her magazine column every week
However, I cannot now bring myself to read even Liz Jones after the Daily Mail Steven Gately 'article' - no grieving family should have to see things like that in print :mad:Sometimes it's hard to walk in a single woman's shoes - that's why we need really special ones!Total debt @ Oct 2008: £29,226.42 Credit Card- £[STRIKE]7493.56[/STRIKE] - £7243.56Weightloss : 0/34lbs0 -
I'm reading her book The Exmoor Files How I lost a husband and found rural bliss. It is really interesting.0

This woman really makes me mad reading about her utter stupidity when it comes to money. It's like she is an MSE anti-Christ or somthing...
LIZ JONES: I spend money to fill a hole in my soul... now I'm £150,000 in debt

LIZ JONES: What happened when I tried to live on £65 a week

I can't wait to see her SOA:rotfl:0

A spoilt prat she is.
What really confuses me after reading that is what the hell the 800 quid a month "grooming costs" were exactly....they surely haven't worked judging by the scarecrow in the pics ...she looks like something an indian tribe put outside their village to scare off evil spirits (or actuallly one of those spirits).

The lady certainly gives the impression of being a bit of an idiot with money, men and social matters, but I would hope that if she felt so bogged down with financial worries that she felt the need to come to this site for help then the good DFW folks on here would put personal prejudices aside and offer objective practical advice and support. After all, I read some posts on here and think to myself "what a complete and utter twonk!" but still try to offer pradtical advice in a non-judgmental way. (Rushes off to polish halo)One life - your life - live it!0

Looks like £800 every 4 months, which still brings the question to how do you spend £200 a month on grooming??? and over £8 for a toothpaste:eek::eek:Proud to be dealing with my debt:eek:
TOTAL: £6,437 (04/01/2013) slowly but surely it is decreasing:D0 -
I read that article on line (sometimes go on Daily Mail website to appall myself at the bigotry and general hatred expressed there to all who are not white, male and "middle class"). While I was gobsmacked at what she spent, I think it was a larger than life example of what a lot of people do inasamuch she was spending to avoid thinking about what was\is missing for her in life. We live in a very consumer driven culture where the external is valued far above qualities such as humanity and compassion. I could go on and on about the cult of celebrity, the "you are what you own" values that seem to dominate things, but I won't!! If Liz Jones came on this site I would not judge her, something must be fundamentally wrong in her life to be fuelling her spending. I truly belive that spending can be an addiction, after all her debts are very similar to the amount someone could spend on street drugs or whatever their choice of self medication is.0
