in Credit cards
Hiya
just a quick question, I have finally cleared all of my balances but after checking my credit history online I still have a few accounts showing as a 0 balance but obviously still with the credit available to me. Do I just need to write to these companies and say ' I have an account with you please can you close it?' I no longer have the account numbers etc as I cut up the cards for them.
thanks

Imagine you left them open, forgot about them and moved house.
New tenants get sent a new card and decide to go on a spending spree on the internet....
The accounts remain open until you close them (or they do).0 -
I would both call, email and fax them. Keep your fax confirmation printout and the email you sent. The email should be sent with a reply requested option taken.0

hiya
thanks for your replies although i'm not certain i made my question clear enough?
I totally understand that I need to cancel the cards which is why i asked the question in the first place. My point is that I no longer have the account numbers/ card numbers as i've cut these up. As the balances are now zero the companies seem to have stopped sending me statements. The only way I know which companies they are with is through checking my credit file through experian.
Can you tell me how I would find the details to email, phone and fax them? I can only find the addresses on experian, no other details as you've suggested
Thanks againDebts all paid!!!:j0 -
I'd call them. They can pull up your account details with your name, dob and address. They'll no doubt ask you a ton of security questions.
Try googling the companys name to see if they have a website. Their contact details will be on their website, if they have one. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I'd call and put it in writing too.
One thing to be aware of, when you call to cancel a card they sometimes offer you very tempting deals to keep your account open. If you're trying to avoid cc debt etc then it's worth being prepared. Or dont call them at all if you think you may be tempted, just write to them.0 -
Thank You so much for your help. I managed to get in touch with Barclaycard today and they did try and offer a very tempting deal. But i've finally got to the point where the only outstanding debt I have is my mortgage and car finance. The car finance wouldn't even be there but i had my house burgled and the car stolen so that's a bit of a sore point still!!! It took a long time to get here, i'm not gonna get sucked into new 'deals' again
i'm happy with the one card that I have which i clear every month and use to pay for everything I buy. I just need to get in touch with those other card companies to stop them sending me anymore tempting offers through.
Thanks againDebts all paid!!!:j0
