Most supermarkets mark down the price of fresh foods that are approaching their sell by date. You can purchase these in the store generally towards late evening.
Advantages
(1) No need to go looking in bins taking the risks of injury, food poisoning or a good ticking off.
(2) Food is displayed so you can choose items you really want.
(3) Pricing between 25% and 75% of full price.
Non-perishable items are reduced when
(1) A line is discontinued
(2) Promotion of some kind
(3) Wine bin ends0 -
I doubt they would throw reclled stuff in bin it would prob be sent back i used work in a supermarket. They sometime throw end lines out etcsometime there.
The amounts i seen sometime is unbelivable 20 12 pack walkers not long out date, lots beer where one been smashed of of multipacks, lots veg, lots of eggs with one broken in long dates, cans pepsi/coke dented, washing liquids conditioner usually with minor damge to packaging, cerial bars, boxes of chud chocolates etc, you wouldnt belive the range of items. I wouldnt risk meat or chilled stuff as prob left ages and unknown history
seams people willing to consume goods ha but dont want do the grim of lookin for it from what i seen or people eat food at peoples works i known and dont know history or dont care ha as i given loads away to people but most dont know where came from.
I only look as place doesnt have halogen lights on and is dark and can wear hat and hood etc depends on shops i guess they dont seam care at this one i dont think, looks same as did when arrived not a huge mess ha
most this in bins unlockedin shared access car park with recycling area not breaking in, i doubt id look if wasnt in financial difficulties0 -

Those handwashes might be subject to a recall, therefore thrown away at request of the manufactuer. Don't assume its safe to use, there usually a reason why its there.
There's a reason it's called a recall. Products subject to a recall would be recalled to the manufacturer, not just thrown away.0 -
Any updates as to the law if you are caught taking food from bins? Is it still true that no one has ever been charged in the uk for it?0

I hope she doesn't get into too much trouble. I hate waste, although would not get stuff from outside bins personally, although would re-think if I was homeless, and desperate perhaps.
I know she wasn't, and is employed, but its stuff that had been thrown away, that I would not willingly touch, apart from the reason mentioned above.
I remember when I worked at Mcdonalds though in my late teens, for a while, stuff would get thrown away 7 mins after cooking in these red plastic bins beside the counters. They were in their original cartons, and the bins were hygienically cleaned daily, I know how clean they were as often had to stay on a late shift cleaning the store (a huge task!).
At the end of the shift I was famished, so if I saw some fresh burgers (in cartons) tipped in, and I had missed lunch would sometimes grab a couple, although against company policy. I was not the only one, although made sure I wasn't caught, even though had been obliged to skip my lunch break!
All that would happen with these products would be to tip them into a compactor inside a rubbish bag, and sling into the huge outdoor bins. Eeew, they were smelly, so wouldn't have been hygienic for anyone no matter from there.New forum. New sig. Yes I still need to lose 2 stone!0 -
I found two melons and a banana in my local supermarked bin yesterday. Tasted perfectly good.
We have a supermarket chain equivalent to Waitrose.
Boy, the classy food stuff they throw away sometimes.:(0 -
one Christmas we were staying in London at a hotel and Christmas eve took a wander along the side roads. We found that many shops had just dumped loads off stuff on the path for the binman, including a mountain of 4 pints of milk with a week on the date. Boots had huge bags of all sorts including all manner of drinks, sarnies, choc bars, yogurts, pre-packed fruit, crisps, peanuts, nuts, cakes etc etc.
Needless to say we stocked up on the pre-packed stuff - the shop had only been closed 30mins so not long enough to have gone off. yummy!!
what a waste as the local old peoples home could have used it all for Christmas day tea and saved a fortune. It was all luxury stuff too!!0 -
I live next door to a supermarket and we are woken up regularly by skip rats. I could understand this if they were down on their luck and needed to find food, but most have very current car registration numbers... perhaps they are some sort of Ecowarriors, or just dirty minging toerags!0
