Yep Op does need a tv licence for both properties:

"If you use a TV or any other device to receive or record TV programmes (for example, a VCR, set-top box, DVD recorder or PC with a broadcast card) in your second home, you need to make sure that it is correctly licensed.

If your second home is a house, cottage, flat, bungalow or any other permanent building, you need to have a separate TV Licence to cover this address.

If you only use a TV set powered by its own internal batteries, you do not need a separate TV Licence."

    From http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/information/secondhome.jsp

Are there any providers that do special deals for gas/elec at two houses or something definately look a switching providers you must be able to save money there and your telephone/internet costs need to be looked at again there has to be a way of bringing those down. But if the move is close then maybe just look at this for the new house.

i spend approx 15 days away and 15 days back here . best return for my money is having a house .alot of people i work with who have been in the forces 2o odd yrs don't have houses and lived in quarters and at the age of 40 plus have to start and with the house prices spiralling i'd rather have a house that i'm paying of for when i get out as who knows how much house prices will be . i'm moving house to be nearer family. but not to close

thanks for the advice already posted.

keep looking at uswitch and london electric reckon they are the cheaper by about £188 for dual fuel going to look into it more today. Someone is interested in my house but needs to look at their finances before they can make an offer. hopefully that may be this week. and as they are first time buyers and the house i have my eye on is no chain so hopefully if all goes well this week the move won't be to far in the future . How long does it take for energy providers to switch?

Im sure someone has already said this, but WHAT ON EARTH is the point of having savings in an ISA accruing at 3.75% or whatever the interest rate is (its crap whatever it is) whilst paying interest at 18%???? That's just bad money management!

Try and pay those credits cards/loans off, that's where the biggest bulk of your income is going.

    servalan,

theres lots of discussion over on homes & properties, about whether the housing market is going to do some "correcting" ( ie prices will fall) and I do think prices will not continue to spiral, although it really does depend where you are living. If you intend to rent the extra rooms out to lodgers then this might be helpful, but if you dont, personally id think vey carefully indeed about whether and what to buy at this time. Might be worth asking the question over on homes & properties. theres a lot of very good advice there.
"best return for your money is having a house" erm, not always so, the best return for your money is in an ISA or some other secure savings pot that only goes up and not down as housing market does/will do in my opinion. How much do you anticipate your new mortgage will be, how much equity will you have in your new place?

If you are going through uswitich for anything, use https://www.quidco.com as they will give you £8 for every switch you do. So if you do phone though them 8 quid, then close the window then do your electric get £8 etc. Energy providers take about a month in my experience, altohugh theres sometimes a delay in it if they quibble what you owe them etc.

Come on someone else must have some other ideas?!!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
