I have a portacabin that needed refurbishing. I have re-cladded the external walls with ply. Can somebody recommend how to render it?.....please

You will need some kind of mesh i would think.Exmet or something like it.I also think there is a membrane you can now get that you render over. Not really my field but someone on here will know.0

Normally rendering is applied to brick buildings with the base coat made up of a morter mix but ply would be a diffult material as it moves with temprature so the render would crack and eventually fall off perhaps timber cladding would be the best solution treated with a good water repellant

Rendering isn't the way to go, there are better options such as cladding as has been mentioned above.0

The old ply had some kind of textured rendering on. Don't know what it was but it seemed to be applied straight onto the wood0

Perhaps you could use a High Textured Masonry Finish (pdf file) ?0

You can render plywood if you use a mesh first.0

I'm a plasterer too, and yeah you can mesh over wood and render it, but I'm not sure I would on a portakabin. They tend to be a bit flexible.
Personnaly I'd fill the joints with woodfiller and paint it with exterior paint.0 -

Probably a Tyrolean finish. Relatively straightforward to DIY, the advantage over a simple render is that you don't have to get it smooth and flat. You can buy the mix (just add water) from a builders merchants. They'll also probably hire you the flicker gun or you can buy one yourself for £25
