    Acers looke better though :)!!

Each to his/her own but I've held a cheap Acer Aspire and was worried that if I owned it for a long period of time it would get damaged, felt so cheap and flimsy.

I own a Dell Inspiron 1300 and although it just has a bog standard plastic casing it is a lot more sturdy and there is more protection behind the LCD.

Dunno if it's any use to anyone, but there's also a 'Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pro V2030' at MicroDirect for £352.

Another 3% off going through 'Quidco' too I believe.

    Anyway, the specs:

    Celeron M 370 1.5 GHz (1 MB - L2 Cache)
    15" TFT active matrix XGA (1024 x 768)
256 MB DDR II 533 MHz SDRAM
    40GB Serial ATA-150 (5400 rpm) HDD
    CD-RW / DVD-ROM Combo Drive
    Wireless LAN
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition - English
    Stereo Speakers

I'm pretty sure this is the same model & specs as the £399 one that Staples had on offer at the weekend (no DVDRW tho' :().

Could do with a memory and battery upgrade, but I jave the bigger brother V2040 and it's a great little machine.

In my opinion, the Dells have far superior build quality to these flimsy cheap Acers.
I used to run a laptop repair business. It definitely wasn't the Acers that were flimsy ;) I now buy them for a software company.
    Can I help?

This was the deal a month or two ago on the Dell website. I got the same sort of deal but mine was faulty so I'm still waiting on a replacement.

Dell were offering free postage and double memory at the time. There hasn't been a comparable offer since.

There has been quite a few sub £400 laptops over the lat year that were worth having - the thinkpad and the Tosh are two that spring to mind.

For me the sub £400 Acer's are a false economy

Even the Tesco ones? A Centrino laptop for less than £400
