Anglian Windows "Gold Account"

HI fellow MSE's,
I have had several quotes for new UPVC windows & doors, in the end I plumped for Angilan Home Improvements (formerly Anglian Windows) despite some of the bad reviews it seems like a good product, the only thing I'm twitchy about is to get he price down I had to sign up for their "Gold Account" finance option provided by Barclays Bank I've trawled through the small print to see what the catch is for an extra £1916-00 discount and I cant find anything, the agreement states I can overpay (hideous 23% APR) the penalty being 2 months interest on the balance outstanding at the time of a settlement fee being requested. My quote is for £5816 cash price less £1916 finance discount, balance is £3900-00 I intend to pay the max deposit of £1560, so the finance is £2340-00, I plan to pay off £2300 immediately as soon as I can after the account is opened leaving £40 on finance then get a settlement figure. Can I do this? Or will they hit me with interest on the full finance amount, I have no experience of this finance arrangement!
Any advice would be great thanks!
Pete.:money:

    Couple things...

OK they offer 'deals' on the finance plans, like most firms, they expect to earn from these, as well as the windows. Yes you CAN mess about with things to make it work in your favour (ish), if you can be bothered.

Their product IS good. We had a tricky instalasion carried out, which DID provide a few awkward to resolve problems. The fitter/rectifaication guy was really thorogh & patient, despite several visits being made.

PRICE, I simply had several quotes, told Anglian what they had to match/beat, to get the order... & they did!!

I paid on credit card, wrote on the order I wouldn't accept any further increases in cost, whoever they occured & didn't even pay the 2% they wanted, for using plastic (announced at surveyors visit).

So get another firm in, cancel the credit account & start again. The credit card way will earn loyalty points/cashback if you have a good card & give the added protection if the company were to fail.

You need only pay deposit on card, if you didn't want to do the whole amount on it - you still gety the added consumer protection.

get another quote from a local company.
and if you really must buy from those anglian cowboys, then at least borrow the money from your own bank.

i wouldnt trust them shysters to water my grass.
    Get some gorm.
  • Thanx for the advice guys I got several qoutes and Anglian matched the cheapest price! It was £3900.00 for 8 windows 2 doors & a patio door, so not bad I think!! But have been on the net & seen & read the horror stories! I think I'll keep em screwed down till I'm happy with the work, might try cancelling the job (I only signed Saturday) to see if they do the job for £3900 without the finance cos it's that element that worries me most!!

I used anglian and their finace. Paid of the windows in 2 large chunks leaving only £1 left on the debt. The next month they took the £1 and I didnt have to ay any early completion fees. I did pay a bit in interest but it did mean that I didn't have such a large debt. I don't think the interest was as high then either.

    Thanks Kiran,
I am still mulling over as to whether I should cancel the order, but the price is really good so.......
Your advice about the finance reassures me somewhat, so I am 60-40 for keeping them as opposed to the other way round! I might ring the rep & say I'm thinking of canceling & see what happens!

Im in no way affiliated with Anglian but I went the local route too when getting quotes. I think my experience may have been improved by the fact that I dealt directly with the local sales manager and not with a sales rep so there was no BS sales techniques.

If you do tell them you are thinking of canceling you may well be able to wangle another small discount out of them. Worth a punt anyway

That is interesting, I've had bout 6 quotes from all different places Anglian price matched the cheapest but ONLY if I had the finance so, gonna cancel & see what happens! My house does have quite large windows though as detached with windows in the Dormas (means they'll need scaffolding up there) so...

  • After all your mulling, did you eventually go with Anglian? And if so, how is it?
