paypal and ebay collection sale?
manhattan
hi,
i just need some advice on one of my ebay sales.
i sold an item and in the description i stated collection is welcome.
the buyer has asked can he pay via paypal and collect the item, now im sure if this was done the buyer could possibly do a charge back as an item not received?
how can i cover myself? or is it a case of cash on collection only?
any help would be great.

I recently sold something which was paid for via PayPal and they collected. However, they had excellent feedback with quite a high rating. However, it wasn't a high value item. They could be doing it that way as they have a PayPal account which isn't their 'real' money.
You could print the PayPal receipt out and ask them to sign it when they arrive. If they are genuine they shouldn't object. I'd suggest letting them know that that is your intention too, as they could get offended if you surprise them with it.
I suppose most people who con, do it because Ebay is anonymous. That is, they don't have to meet you face to face.DMP mutual support number 174Total debt now (April 10) £0! - total paid off £30,221 or 100%I'm now debt free after 6 years!!:jNon smoker since June 2006 :j0 -

That's a good idea. Ask them to bring ID like a passport or driving license. Get them to sign saying item received, and print their name. Make sure the signature is the same as on the ID.0 -
simple,
DON'T ACCEPT PAYPAL,
ask for cash when they pick it up
regardless of any other precautions taken (signature, passport, etc)
IF YOU DONT HAVE THE TRACKING NUMBER TO PROVE DELIVERY, THE PERSON CAN HAVE THE ITEM FOR FREE
paypal can, and will, 99 times out of 100 side with the buyer if suddenly the buyer decided that the item has never been received

I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

If they "sign" for item they can still do a chargeback via Paypal for item not recieved & you will have no trackable method of showing Paypal that the buyer has the item. For your own safety only accept cash for collection items.2025 - finally back comping after a stressful house move - send me fairy dust please0

I can see that you have resolved this now, but for the record I agree with bleugh, never EVER accept paypal when the person is collecting.
