Has anyone set a dual boot up for xp. I have a work laptop it has 100gb drive and I want to set up a seperate xp install so I can use it to surf /work for private business etc. Has anyone tried this etc what are the pitfall etc....

I have a D: drive and was thinking of using this drive as the drive for the new xp install.

What are the pitfalls etc??

Thanks

hve you thought about using a Linux boot disk like Knoppix and a flash drive to store anything you want to save like Favourites etc ??

There arnt any really, you just get a copy of xp (not recovery disk) tell it you want to install it on d: drive and it will do it all for you!, The only bad thing about it is say you want to use office 2003 on both, you have to install it on both verson of xp, beucase it wont run from the other partition (well this was the case with a dual boot with 98/xp, so i might be the same!)

Why can't you just create a separate user profile for home use ? It would be much simpler?

Because my work laptop has tracking software on it such as HP radia on it so I don't want any hassle /bigbrother monitoring what I'm doing when in my personal time. Also don't fancy using two laptops etc...

I have 2 200GB hard drives in my PC and when I fitted the last drive (ie the 2nd 200GB) I set the PC up as dual boot XP.
Very simple to do and it has been like that for just over 1 year and I have had no problems to date !!!!
It is VERY useful - I had a problem (virus) on one drive once and was able to use the other drive to erradicate it !
    Wouldn't be without it now.
