My friend has a lovely clematis and i was wondering if its possible to grow a cutting from it - any budding gardeners out there know?:think:

I'm no gardener so only passing on info.
I was recently admiring my neighbours lovely clematis, which covers their back fence and he said it started as a cutting from a local pub garden (with the landlords permission). So it's not only possible, if theirs is anything to go by it's also quite successful as it's really well established.0 -
I'm not green fingered at all. I have used bits that I have pruned from my clematis and just stuck them in a patio container, they have grown!!!!Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0

Propagating clematis is quite easy, especially the large flowered ones.
The RHS instructions for taking and growing cuttings from climbers is HERE and are very easy to follow. Watering the parent plant well the night before really does improve the quality of the cuttings.
If you want to track down more information on the type of Clematis your friend has the International Clematis Society is a fantastic resource.
