We are having a new boiler fitted on thursday a worcester bosch greenstar 30cdi combi

I have just been told by a friend (who to be honest his knowledge is not that reliable at the best of times lol) that we need a new programmable roomstat.

We have a normal dial thermostat in the hallway, and trvs fitted to the radiators but wasnt aware that we needed a programmable roomstat.

Any ideas so i can get one before thursday as we are supplying everything and plumber (gas safe registered) friend is fitting on thurs.

Many Thanks

I am sure someone will come along and tell you wether its essential or not (ring the bloke and ask him) but if you don't have a programmable one then you won't have control over when your heating/hot water is on other than switching it manually via the boiler itself or the thermostat , personally I would think its essential from a control point of view.. but no doubt its possible without...

You should have some type of time switch. It does not need to be built into the wall stat.

Always get the addon time switch as it makes the installation look a lot better and faster. Looks at some of the following model numbers.

    DT20
    DT20RF
    DT10RF

i thought boilers came with the timer controls already built in??? my current boiler has it all built in and it just comes on at the set times. we programmed it to the times we wanted and it works off that. i have read the manual for the new boiler and it seems that the new one has this as well.

the dial thermostat in the hallway just controls what temp it is set to. im even more confused now. i think im talking about the wrong thing. lol

i cant get the above link to work
  • If you are having a new boiler fitted then for the cost of it i would get a new stat fitted at the same time.
A programmable stat is prefered by chess standards. A standard roomstat is ok though.
If you want the heating on and up to temp when you get up in the morning or when you come home from work then you are going to need a programmable stat.
The honeywell or drayton are both easy to fit and good solid units. i would opt for the wireless stats.

but i have that happen now and we dont have a seperate progtammable stat. all the programmable stuff is on the combi boiler we programmed the times to what we want and it comes on at set times.

i dont have a seperate programmable room stat at all.

the only seperate thing i have is a temp dial in the hallyway (which i always call the termostat) but that just sets the temp. the boiler sets the times.
