I get 30p/mile for petrol, and my car does about 40mpg.

If they reduced this to 12p/mile, my car would instantly become unavailable for work use, and I would insist on a pool car, or borrow someone's company car.

I don't think you should accept having to use your own car at a loss.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Think if you were to work out your costs you'll find you're out of pocket. (higher insurance for business travel-BT, petrol costs for BT, depreciation of car value with business miles, cost of having to buy car earlier due to extra mileage)

Also workout what % of journeys you could realistically do by other means at no extra cost (inc time costs)

I think 30-40p per mile is reasonable, I got this for a short period when I was relocated. You think you're quids in, then realise the extra costs in servicing, parts, petrol, more miles, having to replace your car earlier. I pretty much broke even at 30p a mile

Nothing if it is available, reliable and on time, perhaps in London. In rural Wales it is often a non starter for many who start work before 10 am, as a 30 mile commute at 5 am for a 6 am start would not be possible, and not an option for many. Where would I put parcels for delivery on a bus and how many buses would I need on a 200 mile round trip?

Current journey is 25 minutes in car to the site I visit quite frequently.

Now you mention it, there IS a bus...

Wow, twice an hour... £4.50 return (I think), and takes almost 1 hour.

Then there's the equipment/samples I need to carry, so I would need a taxi at the other end, as it's a 15 minute walk from the bus stop... So about £3 each way I guess...

So they pay me £7.50 for my petrol, or £10.50 bus/taxi, and an extra hour of my time for travelling, so well over £20 for the journey.

Nah, I'll stick to my car!

Public transport is only convenient if you live in a city.

Let's see First bus 7am change 3 times, arrive in Anglesey around 10 am, for a 6 am start
There may be a train but nearest station 10 miles from destination, and 3 miles from home.

Just a quick update, management obviously were a bit taken aback at the fury and outrage this provoked and have reinstated the 40p per mile. So it is sometimes worth challenging things that you feel are unfair, even in this climate.

On the downside they have cancelled our Christmas do.
