He's really quiet, doesnt even want to play fight with the dog, not bothered about food just a lil nibble, just curled up in a ball for the past 2 days, he's just been out for 5 mins probably to do his business, its the OH's cat, i'm no cat expert, should i be worried?

although he has just had a lil bit of my sausage roll, and he normally is a fussy eater

  • Keep an eye on him and if he still seems under the weather by Monday please take Gizmo to the vet. He might have eaten something outdoors which doesn't agree with him but if he is nibbling at some food I wouldn't panic just yet.

He's gone back to his food bowl, but he just seems so quiet it's not like him, he is usually so vocal.

he did bring in a rat the other night, OH said maybe blood poisoning?
    but no visiable bites...

perhaps he's just having a quiet few days..

But will be watching him tho

  • Gizmo might be feeling the effects of a rat-bite so I'd definitely take him to the vet on Monday. Rat-bites can cause an abcess and if I had one I'd be feeling pretty darned poorly as well.

Sounds right, rats can bite badly...have you checked for wounds at all ? Under the chin is the place they can get a nasty nip. Hard to see there.

Cats tend to slope off somewhere away from everything when they are ill or wounded....it's the best way to know there's anything wrong I think.

They feel under the weather just like we do...but they can't takj about it. Mine sometimes vanish most of the day don't come to eat, then later turn up hungry as hell trying to catch up....it's not always something serious although it's worth checking if it's more than a day and they aren't eating.

Gizmo seems to have perked up this morning, happy, puring, happily eating.

but will get him to the vets just to be sure

Did he eat or partially eat the rat? The rat could have been poisoned with warfarin which in turn will affect your cat. I'd pop him along to the vet for a check-up if so. Good luck!

no he just bought in a slightly warm rat, it was all still intact, i didn't get a close look at the rat, so can't see if there are any kitty bite marks.

he's perked up now but still a checkup is always good

  • My brothers cat got bitten by a rat, it was a nasty bite, and the cat had to go on antibiotics and have its wound flushed out twice a day for a while, so although there may not be any obvious wound, its definately worth a check up. Good luck x

Keep an eye on him. Is he drinking still? Does he seem in discomfort? If he doesn't improve in the next two days I would advise taking him to the vets.

    Good Luck
