Hi all
I have had the worst day ever....I hope somebody can help...Thanks to anyone wanting to read this
The background info - agreed to buy a year old car from Ron Skinners & Son (Merthyr). Car has only done 13K miles and has just had an insepction service it says in the manual (Like 10 days ago).
Anyway agreed to part exchange my old T reg golf for £400.....told the sales person that the head gasket had gone. The deal was bring it in its current condition to them for £400 or get it fixed and bring it to them and they will give £800 part ex.....agreed to the former.
The sales rep advised to take plenty of water with us when making the journey and take it slow.....ok plan was to do this.
Before signing I even asked the finance guy what if I cant make it to the dealers.....they said they could even pick it up in some circumstances.....OK.
Came to today and started driving the car up about 30miles as above......was very slow going and eventually I came to a stop on a very dangerous road with cars wizzing by. Car was overheating a bit too much and didnt want to push it.
Dont want to tell you want happend to my parents car (who followed me up) when they tried to tow me
.......so called the garage to see if they can pick us up.
HERE WE GO......now this guy says that they will only give £100 now for the car as im towing it in......its in pretty good nick too....... anyway whole argument ensued regarding the above....he was rude and just didnt want to know. We asked to speak with RON SKINNER or someone else and he advised that "you dont go into Burtons asking to see Mr Burton" so you can see what type of guy we are talking about and the attitude he was bringing (even though i do get his point)
I was ready to walk away and lose my £200 deposit....but decided to go to Ron Skinners and see what they say
So managed to get there (while the aa towed the other car home with my girlfriend init) and again a little argument occurred with the sales rep.
The Rep showed me where it said on the documents I signed about the head gasket and it was written "suspect head gasket" and thats where the problem was - it didnt say head gasket blown
Explained to him about the advise we'd recieved about getting the car up there in its condition and the fact that they could pick it up if stuck
To make matter worse apparently the finance guy had left the company and the sales rep was on holiday so I had no backup whatsoever on what I was saying other than "head gasket - suspect"
I was absolutely stuck by this point and the sales rep had orders from his bosses that £100 was the offer and thats it
Even after this..... as I didnt want to lose the deposit to still go for the car
Anyway paid £400 extra and bought the car.....chuffed not quite
This is the first car thats not been handed down and what an experience.
IT GETS WORSE
Got the car home.....just tried to move it slightly to one side of the drive to stop kids trick or treating hitting it and there was the biggest oil spill that ive seen from a car EVER.
Just now got the jet spray out at 5pm this evening to get the stuff off as much as possible but still think theres gonna be a huge horrible patch on the drive
Called RON SKINNERS & SON at 4.45pm and the person said that the service centre is closed and to contact the SEAT garage basically.....OMG!!! I just got the thing home!!!!
Guys what do I do....what can I do.....
Can I return the bloody thing just dont want it anymore
Thanks for any advice im at my wits end

Get someone to have a quick look at it (do not let them do any work visual inspection only....this is important!!) and give you an idea of what is wrong. Then decide.0

Its a year old so it will be under the manufacturers warranty hence the suggestion to take it to SEAT
Tbh don't think the car dealer did anything wrong as the car was clearly further damaged by you to get it to the garage and the oil leak could be anything. Probably actually already there from the banger.0 -
Thanks all for the replies so far....yeh its still under warranty so thats why seat is recommended but still cant belive it - do I have any rights whatsoever as Ive only owned it for 5 hrs ???
They already knew the trade in car was overheating - anyway thats back at home now anyway - just concerned about this car i got now0 -
Are you definite it's engine oil?0

Well Im not sure but it was black and was definately oil of some sort..... cant get it off my drive with a jet wash.....comming from the right side of the car as you look at the car0
