Barclays Young Persons Account

I have a young persons account (because when I applied a few months ago, I failed the credit check for a Barclays Bank Account, too many searches on my file).

I'm turning 19 soon, and wondering what will happen, as I don't meet the criteria for the standard bank account. Will they close the account?

If you are going to uni soon, it's worth upgrading to a student account. You could go ask your branch about what happens when you are not 19 anymore.

I don't see the point of the bank closing an account when you are not 19 anymore. Also, I haven't heard of an account being closed due to a change of age. Closing an account means losing customers, which isn't good. Most banks tend to upgrade a teenager bank account automatically to an adult account.

I've had this account for a while. I use the MonthlySaver as it allows withdrawals, which most others don't.

Apart from that, I have HSBC and Lloyds TSB.

The T&Cs I have say it'll automatically be converted to an adult account. If you have too many searches or whatever you might get their most basic adult account.

How many searches do you have so far?

Wait until the searches disappear. After that, try the upgrade. I think they disappear in 3 months (please correct me if I'm wrong). Alternatively, wait until they do the upgrade automatically.

Searches last 12 months, but aren't usually that much or a problem after 6 months.
