Anyone used Planet Numbers??

My parents live in Spain and it is pretty expensive to call them, esp as I have just gone onto Virgin Media. i found 'planet numbers' which gives you a number to phone, you then dial the spanish number and it apparentl only cost you 1p per minute at all times.

I just wondered if anyone had used it or if it was dodgy and would end up charing me a tenner a minute or something!! :rolleyes:

There are many similar gateway providers (some charging ½p/minute to call Spain). Check out the MSE International CallChecker and take your pick (scroll down when the new page opens).

Beware though, the per minute price you see will not be the price you pay as you're not on BT. Virgin Media is notorious for charging extra to call many (most/all?) 0844 number ranges (as much as 6 times what BT charges for some).

For example, they don't charge 1p/minute but 3.96p/minute at all times for calling the 0844605 number you are thinking about using (i.e. 4 times more than BT).

However, I'd recommend you forget 0844 gateways because you start paying halfway through dialling and will be charged even if there is no reply or the called number is engaged. Instead, open a www.18185.co.uk account and use their 0808 1 703 703 freephone gateway number to call Spain - 1p/minute at all times (being freephone, VM can't rip you off if you use that). Charging does not start until the call is answered.
