Card Protection Schemes

Hello.
New here and not sure if I should be posting this here but as I get used to the site I will hopefully know my way round it a bit better.

My question:

I have for the last 15 years been paying for credit card protection which is now £20.00 a year.
for this, I get card protection an all my credit,debit and store cards plus I get key protection and passport protection as well, in case of loss or theft.

Does anyone know if I can get this service cheaper or for free.

£20 a year really isnt much, the cheapest I have seen it is £15 a year but the person in question had had excellent service from their £20 a year scheme when they made a claim and decided that a saving of £5 a year really wasnt worth the risk of getting budget price but budget level of service.

There's recent evidence of liability shift for fraud on to the cardholder were a PIN is used with a genuine card by the fraudster.

It maybe worthwhile asking your insurer if your card protection plan covers this.

I don't have any card protection schemes as I considered it a rip off. We travelled at least twice a year abroad. Is it really necessary to have this cover?

It is the same as all insurance (other than employers liability)... do you want to pay a fixed amount every year and "know" there will be no cost to you if something happens or do you want to save yourself the annual fee and run the risk of a cost to yourself if something happens?
