btw so that runs as two prosessesor that are both 2.66? in total about 5ghz of prosessing power?
I need an upgrade! lol
Thanks Tom :-)
doesn't exactly work like that I'm afraid
for a prog optimised to only use one core (as most still are, although newer ones are getting better), it would effectively only work as a single 2.66ghz cpu.
for mutiple system intensive apps (say, re-encoding a movie whilst working in PS) you would notice a big difference , as the OS can share the workload across the 2 cores, giving you the power of the 2 cpu cores.
as for where to get them, try all the usuals; Scan, aria, novatech, ebuyer, microdirect, dabs, ocuk, overclock, yoyo tech etc"If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -
Thats still a good deal! So if i was extracting a winrar file thats quite resource heavy, it would use one CPU, and let the other prosesses run smootly, using the other one?
Thanks Tom :-)0 -
The hidden secret of the pentium D805 is that it is "super" overclocking chip. See article

Okay 4.1GHz is ridiculously high and you would need some fancy cooling but I am sure you could reach 3.6-3.8GHz with acceptable stability and CPU temps. You would need to buy a decent air cooler ... Zalman CNPS 9500 or something similar (30 quid). At 3.5GHz+ this is performance beyond a Pentium EE 840 chip (costs 470quid ) which clocks in at 3.2GHz.
As for which motherboard would be good???? I dunno.

yeah , I wasn't ignoring that. just taking into consideration the original post:heathen wrote:as i have no idea what cache even is let alone what it does.
made the leap that if he doesn't even know what cache is, he's not likely to be a big overclocker
but even forgetting the oc'ing aspect, it's still a damn good price for a damn good cpu"If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -

your right i have no interest in overclocking at all.
some interesting opinions on whether a duel core is a good idea though;)
i guess its really a case of go for the best your budget will stretch to as always.0
