Emergency Need Loacal Currency, as didnt pick it up en route

Hi

Ive just come to Trinidad and Tobago and I was supposed to pick up my Trinidad and Tobago dollars from the airport, but as i packed my cards into my suitcase and the Travelex was airside they could not give me my currency.

I have brought with me a Lloyds TSB debit card and a Halifax (smart car) Credit card.

What is the best method for me getting out £500 cash??? I believe that the lloyds card for taking it out of the wall is bad but also so is the credit card.

What is my best option???

Please reply quick as i have limited internet use.

Thanks
Tim

  • Not sure but if you use your debit card you shouldn't be charged interest i.e. like you will definitely be if you take cash out on a credit card.

Only Debit Cards are shown on that list - for Debit/Credit Card comparisons see http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/overseas-card-charges

Halifax Credit Card - cash withdrawal 3% (min £3) 27.9% APR
LTSB Debit Card - cash withdrawal 1.5% (min £2) max £4.5

Short of taking up armed robbery you only have one choice - Lloyds - regardless of whether they charge nothing or a million for overseas card use

Yeah so what? That's just journalistic hype. It's only bad in relation to other debit cards. In the overall scheme of things it's ... well not good - but not that bad either. It's easy to do worse

It will probably give you a better deal than travelex at the airport - not the deal you had, which was presumably prepaid - but if you had just turned up.
