Married Qtr after completion of 22 yrs service

Options
Hi

Anyone know if you can keep your married quarter on for a few months after completion of your 22 years service? If so, can you do this if you are posted and in a quarter overseas on your final day of service?

In the UK the notice to vacate is timed so the last day is also your last day of service. I believe its the same if you are overseas but you can ask for an extension.

    If you go on www.defence-estates.co.uk

    SFA Publications
Then check out the SFA in GB page 142 and SFA Overseas page 82 for more details.
  • It depends on where you live and your circumstances, as to how long you can have. You are supposed to notify the DHE, as there are times when you can stay on.

However there a 2 people where I live who have stayed on for upto 2 years after leaving, they kept their heads down and didn't complain, there was no pressure on the housing therefore no one did anything.

I think there was something in the last AFF about this.

I think you have 90 days but each HIC probably has their own set of rules dependant on if they have surplus quarters or not.

  • There is a new program to allow you to occupy vacant MQs for resettlement. I think this was in Defence mag but can't remember. Ask your Hive.

I stayed in my quarter for 5 months after completing 31 years. I just paid the £500 p/m rent that DHE wanted and had no hassle whatsoever.

The family opposite us stayed there for over 2 yrs after him leaving the mob. They just kept declining council houses and because they were paying double rent (same as council rent) to DHE they (DHE) seemed quite happy with the arrangement. It was only after they became pub landlords (with accomodation) they moved out.
