Dodgybloke wrote:I have a Focus TDCI which flies. However, with your proposed the TDCI engine is likely to be out of budget. You might get a fiesta, so you're better off looking at Seat or Skoda with the excellent TDI engine. Another possible is the Peugeot HDI engine which I hear good things about.
However, rather than guess, check out the AA website and select the tell me how much my car is worth. Enter your parameters and it will tell which cars fit you budget. It uses the glass's guide which are the actual prices the motor trade pay.

I hope this helps.
cheers for the link easier to use than the vauxhall one.
Dont understand why the prices are different to the What Car valuation???
I am looking for a Honda Civic Diesel or maybe almera diesel.
I do high miles (100/day) and seek a reliable 5dr car. Any other suggestions welcome.0 -
The Honda Civic diesel hasn't had the best write ups. Not quite sure why, but possibly not using the latest possible technology? While Honda's are reliable, the Skoda Octavia is the number one most reliable car according to the reliability index. It also boasts one of the best diesel engines on the market.

Remember that for diesel cars - japanese are NOT the best..
As already stated the Volkswagon group TDi engines or the Peugeot-Citroen groups HDi engines are the best.
The Ford TDCI is also good ( but then it is a version of the HDi ). The Renaults are good on paper , but have been known to have a few niggles.
Don't think that the good petrol cars are also the best in their diesel equivalents, because this is not the case. If i were buying petrol it would be japanese all the way ( toyota, honda or nissan ).
I own a Picasso HDi now, and would not go back to petrol. My average MPG is currently showing 52.4 MPG ( on the inbuilt computer). No petrol car will average that ( i only got about 45 MPG from a 1 litre Nissan Micra i owned).
MAKE SURE YOU GET A LATER GENERATION DIESEL.. Don't go for the older turbodiesels or standard diesels. These have way lower power and worse fuel consumption.0 -
My hubby has a TDI VW Bora. He does on average 48mpg on a mixture of lanes and a roads. He's putting £20 a week in - big change from the mondeo we had that was £45 a week0
