Off Topic, But Missing Dog

Hiya,

I am more of a lurker than a poster but am hoping someone can help me.

We have two small dogs, a Cairn and a Pom. The Pom is actually a cross and worth very little but to look at him he looks like a pure breed.

Anyhow, last night around 6pm my partner left them both in the back garden and when he went to let them back around 8pm the Pom was missing.

Our garden has a six foot fench round it and the gate is always padlocked shut. The gate was open and the padlock was no where to be seen. No one needs to walk past my garden as it doesn't lead anywhere.

I can't understand why the dogs didn't bark as they always do. At first we thought kids had maybe let them loose but the other dog was still there and that wouldn't explain why the padlock is missing.

I live in the Greenisland, Carrickfergus, Newtownabbey area so if anyone hears anything please get in touch with me.

Thanks and I hope someone somewhere can help me.

  • Good luck getting him back, keep us updated with any developments.
  • we had folks ask to 'buy' our dogs (not pedigree but of a breed that might be useful) and then threaten to steal them anyway (it turned out they had been into our garden a few days earlier). i also had a cat go missing for a week, which then turned up.

i really do feel for you, but you must try not to assume they have gone for one particular reason - try every avenue you can and never give up.

contact not only the police, but also any local/community bobbies you have. put up posters locally in shops, on lamposts etc with picture and phone number (don't offer reward). ask neighbours to check outbuildings/garages etc. put food outside your house as well as something that smells familiar to them eg. your slippers, their bed etc.

i know it sounds silly, but even try something like 'positive visualisation' - there are websites devoted to what to do to try and find your pet, google missing dog.

phone the rspca, local vets and animal sancturaries.

    good luck x

Have you read "The Secret"? Similar idea and it really does work - to the OP try to stay positive and I really do hope you get the dog back. I really feel for you but am miles away so not much practical use I'm afraid!

  • Thanks for all your ideas, I think I have done most of them. I am sitting now trying to find a good photo to get it printed and already asked in the local shop if I can put it up.

We have left the back gate open now and his food dish with a small amount of food in it, also his fav blankie in the kennel.

So sorry to hear about your dog, you could either sign up on Dogpages forums & post, or I could for you if you PM me what you want to put, there's rescues there from all over the country & s/he could end up in one or a pound. Is it microchipped? Is it neutered? Remember to inform the Vet's all over the place & get them pics if you can. You could try the local radio, some will mention missing dogs. I hope you find it, I think there's a site called dog lost you could try also x

https://www.doglost.co.uk - Firstly, get his details on there. Then get a poster printed up with his picture on. Plaster the area with them...and I mean plaster! Put them everywhere you can think of....shops, vets, lamp-posts...wherever. DogLost members can help distribute if there are members in your area. They also have contatcs at rescue shelters/pounds etc. If you make the dog 'too hot to handle' then whoever has him is more likely to want rid.

It can help to fib slightly on the poster...saying that he is ill and needs daily medication can make him less desirable to keep.

I really hope you find him soon, you must be worried sick.

(Have also sent you a PM)
