I resisted in Ikea!!!!!!!!!

Went there the other day to accompany a friend and bought EXACTLY what I intended!!:j
Which was - a cushion cover for a bizarrely shaped cushion I already have that only ikea do (£6ish)
2 knives (49p, 99p) for my boyfriend's kitchen - he has only one useless knife for chopping. I've had these knives from ikea in my own kitchen for ages and they're great - never need sharpening, easy to use etc.
My friend had to get some certain things too (£24 quids-worth I think) but due to that ikea-syndrome of chucking all those weird/gorgeous/strange looking cheap things in the basket her final bill was about £80!
Anyway, I guess she does have the money, so she's not increasing debt by doing this. But it did make me think........I used to be a bit like that - not considering how things add up. Also thinking I needed to have this trendy/everything matching look, gorgeous knick-knacks about the place. Somehow this doesn't really do it for me now - it's just more stuff that you don't really need.
She also said that her husband wouldn't be exactly pleased about this extra spend, but not to worry, she'd smuggle the bags into the house and when she's unpacked everything and put it in place he won't even notice!:rotfl:
Anyway, just a thought on this bank holiday weekend if there are any MSE'rs, DFW's out there trying to resist or perhaps thinking of a bit of home-improvement/DIY...............;)

Thanks Alex!
Not a bank holiday here unfortunatley (I'm v. jealous!) but well done, I'm very proud of you!
Think I probably would've allowed myself a £10 on misc. Ikea cr*p - so you are a better woman than me!

Wow! Well done! I am a complete nightmare in Ikea - a trip for ONE thing has ended up beig a £150 spend before on things we just 'need'! NO more though. I am completely avoiding it however, and getting people to pick things up for me -you're very strong!!

In some ways it's a blessing I don't drive and Ikea is always so far out of town!
There's an armchair I'd quite like, but I saw it on e-bay for a fraction of the price so this really helped the resistance!0 -

wow!! i'm super impressed by that.
I've never actually been to an Ikea (i must be the only person on the planet), but i'm told they don't actually have windows in the building so that you lose track of time in there and only focus on the merchandise!

Does anyone other than me get 'Ikea rage' ? By the end of the shopping trip I usually feel like throwing a Fāark or a Spëe at someone.. especially the huge families who just stand infront of you and move at a snails pace </rant>0

Oh heck yes. I was in there yesterday (only extras were a couple of smelly candles :T ) and the people make it the shopping equivalent of the M25 at rush hour. Not sure who are worse though - bored children or stressed parents armed with a trolley.
One woman came out of a side aisle, slammed into me with her trolley, cutting my ankle, and then demanded an apology for my being in her way.
I am afraid I was less than charitable in my reply.
Definitely felt the need to smack her with a Rulfvard. :rotfl:Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

All I want to know is how did you do it??????????/ you should write a book about it or something I have never known anyone who can resist ikea and its bargains. My husband and I used to live in Germany and would just pop there for a browse and come home at leats 150dm (£50) everytime. Now I just avoid it because I always come home with bags of goodies I then regret buying or have no use for.
Well Done !!!!!!!May 2015 £10 a day currently £2080
