Hi All,
Im looking at my father-in-laws usage and tyring to suss out if it will be worthwhile him switching, the comparison sites all seem to over estimate his prices (I've emailed them all about it) even though he's on a standrad tariff with Southern Electric.
He's currently on standard tarifss with no standing charge, does anyone know how I might go about testing the effect of standing charge versus no standard charge?
I'm thinking baout trying to work up a spreadsheet to do the calculations, before I reinvent the whell, has anyone tried to do this?
Any help gratefully received

To work out the effective standing charge on a 'no' standing charge tariff subtract the tier 2 price from the tier 1 price and multiply by the number of units charged at tier 1 prices.
(Tier 1 - Tier 2) x 900 (for Southern's electricity)
(Tier 1 - Tier 2) x 4572 (for their gas)
In most cases you will find the results of these sums are almost the same as the corresponding annual standing charge (365 * daily standing charge)
So for most people there is no reason not to choose the no [daily] standing charge tariff (as you may gain over summer when your heating is switched off.)0
