I don't really understand -i want to book tickets for paddington to plymouth in advance -but 1st advance tickets seem to be cheaper than advance tickets or am i missing something?

No you are not missing anything - the cheaper standard ones have sold out and many people confine their search to those and don't bother to continue looking0
