Internal Laptop Battery

My laptop (Sony Vaio) works just fine in every way, except that when not plugged into the mains, it cannot keep time.

I believe that it is likely that I need to replace the internal battery.

Can any of you techies tell me whether it's the sort of job I could do myself? Would the battery be easy to order or buy over the counter? I have put a few PCs together, but have never got intimate with the laptop.

Oh, and I'd rather chew my own arm off than take it to PCW.

I think the internal batteries are usually CR2032 button batteries.

As for getting intimate with the laptop, I would not recommend it as laptops are usually built very intricately and you might end up taking apart the whole thing and not find the battery. Give Sony a quick call or check out http://www.vaio-link.com.

do you not have a friendly comp shop that might replace the cmos battery for you that bit cheaper than a sony specialist would charge(?)
