British Gas communication problems.....
Options
Right i am !!!!!! off with British Gas.
My tenant left without paying the last gas bill. So i have been getting disconnection notices. Now i have sent them numerous letters and called them many times to rectify the situation and pass on the tenants forwarding addresses etc. Yet i am still being warned for disconnection. In fact they will probably disconnect me next week. I have recorded the dates i spoke to them and sent the later letters by recorded delivery so should i worry? They assured me that i could ignore the disconnection threats.
Am i liable for my ex-tenants bill? i'm afraid the bill was never changed into her name (don't ask, never trust someones someones friedn etc). I have sent British Gas tenancy agreements to prove i never lived there. Can they still disconnect my property, or could British Gas disconnect her new place?

If it is in your name then you are responsible for the bill. You must pay it. Sorry but thats the way it is. They will disconnect if you don't.

Didn't you take a deposit from your tenant? Use that to pay the bill instead of giving it back to them!0

Strictly speaking if your name's on the bill it is your responsibility BUT if you have provided BG with a tenancy agreement for the period(and there is no metion of utilities being included in the rent) then they will most certainly change the account name and bill the tenant for the period. Mistakes like this happen all the time and they are perfectly capable of doing this, by the sound of it it just may take a few phone calls until you get someone that can be bothered/has authority to do it!
I would keep pushing and fax the agreement in again, if they do disconnect you there will be a reconnection charge and they may not waiver it for you.Debt at 1/5/09 £21,996 _pale_
