I decided it was only sensible to confirm what sort of USB I have and did a quick google. This told me to look on the Device Manager. Double clicking on USB controllers brought up 8 entries. I don't know what they all refer to but the first is 'USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller' and another is 'USB 2.0 Root Hub'. The other 6 entries don't have 2.0 in the title and having 6 ports (2 front, 4 back) I'm not quite sure what it all means, but can I take this to mean I do have USB 2.0 capability afterall?
Nice one
Now TV Card, I would recommend spending more then £20 on one, beucase the cheaper ones dont have strong tuners and you can only use the software that comes with it!
I would recommend the freecom one for £30, but you can only use the freecom software with it or Savastore.com currerntly have a hauppauge hybird that will do digital and analoge televison on the same stick for £40, and can be used with any software of your choice and windows media centre :-)

Thanks Tom. The aerial for the hybrid you posted looks better, but reading a review: http://64.233.179.104/search?q=cache:lceCoJO6Dr8J:www.pcpro.co.uk/shopper/reviews/82738/hauppauge-wintvhvr900.html+WinTV+HVR900+review&hl=en&gl=uk&ct=clnk&cd=16
suggests it isn't up to much, with no ability to program recordings (using EPG) - is this just because they didn't use it with different software, do you think, or is it the device itself that falls short?I am a cider drinker - like my father before me.0 -

Plenty of 3-rd party software that should run most PCI tv tuners.
This always gets a good write-up on warp2search.

Thanks for the link, I have been using ProgDVB which works quite well. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
It dont matter if its PCI or USB, as long as the tv card is MCE compatabile (media centre) or comes with BDA drivers (microsoft "standard" for DTV cards)

What's the model number for the digital only, Tom? Am i saving much money if I go for that instead, given that the analogue picture gets a fairly lame write up (and won't be around for too much longer)?
Also, can you plug a VCR out cable into this and therefore record VHS onto hard drive?

You can with the with the hybird one yes, the digital only one is the same price! infact a few more pence expensive! If you want to use it portabley i would recommend going for the analong one, beucase you have more chance picking up a analog signal portabely!
