Debit card transaction not showing

I have bought something this afternoon using my debit card. The transaction was approved, and the amount is taken.
I have checked online banking, and the balance is different, due to the amount being taken. When I check the online statement, the transaction doesn't show. I thought the transaction will appear immediately on the online statement.

This is how debit or credit card transactions will always show up.
Your bank authorised the transaction with the retailer at the moment you entered your PIN. This means the bank said you have enough money in your account for them to be able to make this payment. To make sure that you don't spend it before the retailer actually collects it, they have reduced your available balance by that amount.
It will then show up on your account in a few days time - this is when the bank takes the money out of your account, and sends it to the retailer.0
