  • How do you make the toffee on toffee apples? Is it just sugar heated up until it turns to caramel or do you need water and/or anything else?

I was going to make these for my Halloween party but I decided on using chocolate instead. Melting chocolate and then dipping them in nuts, and various other toppings :D

  • I used this one from good food before http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/534219

However it gets so hot I was quite concerned about scalding and it killed my pan, I can not express how heavy based the pan needs to be! It was fun, but I'll pass doing it this year! Choc topped with sprinkles this time!

    Hi recovering spendaholic,

There was a thread on this last week so I've merged your thread with it to keep the recipes together.

This thread also has a recipe, but some people had difficulty with it:

    Easy toffee apples recipe... really!!

It makes it taste more caramelly rather than just sweet, it's all to do with helping the inversion of sucrose into it's two componets dextrose and frutose.
This process goes on naturally when you heat sugar but the vinegar helps it happen at a slightly lower temp meaning you get a smoother caramel flavour.
For toffee apples I wouldn't have thought it that important though.

I am so pleased that I found this thread as I want to make some toffee apples for my Grandchildren. Does anyone know where I can buy the Wooden sticks from. I prefer the flat type (as on the lolly ices) I cannot find mine since we moved and I had had them for years anyway. I do hope someone can help.TIA

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!

    Hi dora,

    These threads should help:

How do you make the Toffee for Toffee Apples?

    Easy toffee apples recipe... really!!

I'll add your thread to the most recent of those later to keep the recipes together.
