Barclays Default for £85 - Help!
Comments

Why is it preachy? It's like me writing:
Ignorance is no excuse, however you write it.
However I wish the OP good luck with his letter.
The way I see it, it's like I have broken a leg (admitedly though my own bad planning) and instead of taking me to a hospital you are all stood around saying "Well, my legs' not broken".0 -
That comment has really annoyed me. I don't think my request is akin to sueing anyone or anything.0
-
One more point:
I joined this board specifically for help. I've been advised about others in far worse situations and been cast some pretty heavy judgements.
Yes there are plenty of people in worse situations than me.
However, others have borrowed thousands, spent it, not paid it back and got defaults. I spent nothing, the £85 is made up entirely of charges. Barclays were contantly aware of my location. Yet they issued a default for £85 pounds of money I never even saw.
And now I am viewed the same as someone who spent, spent, spent and didn't pay what they owe. I will be declined by all major lenders automatically.
Telling me I should have cancelled two defunct direct debits, or telling me your mates are not defaulted helps me none.
I could very well sit here and cast aspersions at all the little debt amount calculators you all have in your posts.
Please, can I ask that if you have no advice, don't post. All advice will be greatly appreciated though.
Thanks.0 -
Yes, but you openly admitted it was your own fault, hence the responses. You can't shut the door after the horse has bolted etc etc.
However if you'd cancelled the DD and EDF re-instated it and then you got charges, then that would be a different matter. But in this instance it is not.
And I think you'll find it's a free country, so people (myself included) will post here as and when we see fit.
I went a few pence into the red about 9 years ago with NatWest (less than 50p if I remember), and I incurred £63 in charges. Was it my fault? Yes. So I paid the charge and lived with it. (Took my business elsewhere after that though, but I digress)
Have I made a similar mistake since? Hell no! That was a bitter pill to swallow.
What I am trying to say is whats done is done, and you'll probably have to live with the default on your file for 6 years, no matter what people post on here. I notice you are writing a letter to the agencies, so I wish you all the best with that.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
Here is my advice,
Pay the debt off.
Hope this helps.0 -
Hi Never in doubt,
Thank you very much for the template. The problem is that Barclays refuse to discuss the account and say all dealing has to be through Wescott.
And Wescott say that they have no power to remove the default as it was issued by Barclays.
Should I send this letter to Barclays or Wescott? Or both?
One other thing, the amount is completely made up of charges and I am willing to pay all of it to clear the default. Should I say this, or start off at 50% so that I can increase the offer and have another bash? That would seem the most sensible route perhaps?
Who would you suggest I write to?0 -
Yes. I think I'll just take my request elsewhere.
Maybe a church? That's about the only other place I can think of that might offer the same pious, sanctimonious and ultimately irrelevent 'advice' as here.
Thanks to the 2 people who actually said something worthwhile.
It seems to me there is a group of you who have paid their off debts and are now sniping from their ivory towers. Having never gone into debt in the first place, I can't begin to imagine how superior that must make you feel.
Good luck with that.0 -
I'm not getting any answers, just comments about how brilliant you all are and how stupid I am.
How many times can I say that I realise not cancelling the direct debit was foolish? It was a genuine mistake. I've not spunked up thousands of pounds doing god know's what like some here have. Yet my defualt is seen as just as bad. Barclays didn't communicate with me sufficiently, and given the amount is so small - can the default be reversed? That's it. I came for help not judgement.
At no point did I say "please judge me and tell me how awesome your finances are".
And I'm sorry to say that it's a sad indictment on your character if you chose to express your 'right to free speach' by sticking the oar in those who seek your assisstance.
Is there any way to close this thread and/or delete it? Mods?
I'm done with it.0 -
I've had no strop. I was attacked from the off. I demanded nothing. I asked for advice and got comments like 'my friend didn't do that' and 'it wouldn't happen to me'. Brilliant. That's so helpful.
I have already thanked the two people who offered proper advice. What I can't understand is as well as the advice that was given and gratefully recieved, I have a load of idiots, like you, offering their opinions on it. How does this help me?
I've not been rude once. Yet I've been compared to someone trying to sue someone, been sworn at and insulted by people in far worse predicaments than me.
I don't want to pay the debt yet, as it's the only levrage I have to get the default removed. Is that so hard? There's no priciple involved. As I said after the first attack. Can people really not offer advice without casting apsertions first?
I can promise this though, if I do get it resolved and I see someone else in the future in a simliar situation, I won't be saying to them "Well, it's your own fault, I got it sorted - but you won't". I'll tell them how I did it.
But now that you say your husband thinks I'm a !!!!!!, I concede that it must be true. You've perfectly summed up my distaste for this board. Your 'advice' is to call me a !!!!!!?!? This is pathetic and you really all should be ashamed of yourselves.
Again, a big thank you for the members who advised the FSO and the template letter. Much appreciated. Why everyone else decided to comment on it is beyond me.0 -
I've reported this thread for abuse.
Hopefully it will be deleted also.0
