Hi,

This is my first post on here and Im a FTB, as such this site has been invaluable to me!

Im should be moving into a new build 2 bedroom flat soon but am a bit confused over what energy costs to expect.

Id like to have a pay as you go type electric meter but is that possible with flats? and would it be worth it i.e. extra cost, hassle etc?

Any help would be great! God know i need it... :p

the answer is yes you can have a card meter installed, not sure how much it would cost you for the installation, but it does work out more expensive. look on the switch sites for references to credit meters. You should also check with your landlord if you do not own the building. You can get card operated meters for gas & electricity, but also make sure their are outlets where you can buy the cards from. I switched back to the usual meter and saw a huge saving because card meters have to be updated regularly and your costs incure things like updating the meter, the cost of the cards, and also the cost of the plastic like credit card they send you like a swipe card.
in all stay as you are its far cheaper.

If you want to have card meter installed. Which I believe them may well charge you. But if you are new owner they they may not. Might want to check first. As a new account holder you can be allowed one meter change for free. As when I moved in to my flat we not only had a card meter but Economy 7 and no storage heaters  . And the amount we put on the card for 3 months was £75  . So we got a new meter installed and came off economy 7 and had gas central heating put and the bills dropped to about £45 a quarter.

Which I am not sure why you want a card meter but each to there own. If you can afford to put X on the card everyweek why not just put it in savings account untill the bills comes. And then pay if off. But that was not what you are asking. So I will just shut up ;)

Right I have become side tracked. If you choose this company http://www.ebico.co.uk/ everyone is charged the same. Not matter how they pay their bill. By card meter, DD or when the bill comes in.
