Internet problem:some programs don't recognise me as online?

Options
Only just noticed this problem today after installing Realplayer and going through the set up it doesn't detect me as being online? Which is weird because I am online!

Then when I tried to log in to Windows Live messenger the same thing! grrrr

I'm online via a BT ADSL Voyager 2100 router by ethernet cable to pc. Up until today I'd always seen my connection in Network connections as LAN but now I'm seeing "Internet Gateway" thing - what's that?

Any of you techy geniuses tell me if I've messed up somewhere please?

Thanks in advance, Dan.

PS: Here's a screenshot if that sheds any more light on my problem
(if the image loads too large I'll remove it).

You appear to be running ZoneAlarm firewall. I'd guess that the firewall is blocking Messenger - if so you need to set up the firewall to allow Messenger access rights.

Thanks for that but I've checked my firewall settings and my msn/windows live does have access permission. This problem has only just come to light after installing Realplayer  which I want to keep because I watch quite a lot of BBC online clips.

Uninstall the RealPlayer carp and install RealAlternative.

:rotfl: lol I knew someone would say that! I'll give that a go but does anyone know what this "internet gateway" icon is? Ive never seen it before and why has it just appeared when either realplayer or MSN has tried to access the internet?

Uninstalled Realplayer and installed realalternative and it's working great - thanks :j !

But, still can't log into MSN/Windows live because it says my "gateway" is offline  ???

Try removing that new Internet Connection Icon in Network Connections as you obviously don't need it, if you are connection to your router via Ethernet!

I think the Internet Gateway (Internet Connection) is required. It is created by your router and allows any computer with an Internet Gateway connection to enable or disable access to the internet for all computers on that router. Try right-clicking it and clicking Connect or Enable if those options are listed. When it is working its status will show as Connected.

If that doesn't work, go into your router's config screens and Apply or Test the basic settings to recreate Internet Gateway. Press F5 on the Network Connections screen to refresh the statuses.
