Student Purchase of Microsoft Products

Apologies if this is already here somewhere on the forums, I'm still new here so still finding my way around the boards

Anyway, if you're a student you can get Windows 7 for £30 and Office 2007 for £40

microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-uk/default.aspx

But you must be able to prove you are a student.

I still can't post actual links yet, so you'll have to add the www.

Or you can get open office for free
  • Thanks for posting, I think it's a pretty great deal. To prove it all you need to do is enter your College email address, I did this with mine but nothing came through. The College's Helpdesk are supposedly looking into it so fingers crossed I'll get it.

It is provided as a download. You only have one opportunity to download the file.

Should you want to download the file again it costs £4, a DVD hard copy costs £9 and is an option when you are ordering.

I had'nt been sure quite what you get from this, and had read reports of corrupted downloads, and non standard disc formats being used.

But just thought that I'd at least post this in case anyone had'nt been aware of it.

To the other posters who supplied other information , I thank you

I purchased Office 2007 from Ultimate Steal last year and the download worked and the backup disk arrived very quickly after; the disk format was fine.

They have had some problems with the Windows 7 download this year. They are doing it in a bit of a strange way. You download a download manager which then downloads two box files and a setup file. You then run the setup file and it unpackages the boxes into a normal setup file for Windows 7.

So people have been having a problem with the boxes becoming corrupted and not being able to get the setup file to run. I think Microsoft are looking into it and may have already fixed the problem.

Its a completely different setup from the Office 2007 download so you having no problems is no indication of people not having problems with this new Windows 7 download.

Absolutely true! Don't do this offer unless you are willing to pay an extra £9 for the CD version.

The Windows 7 offer is an 'upgrade' version and not a 'full' version.

This means you need a previous version of Windows to 'upgrade' from.

Microsoft stated they believe the problem is caused by people downloading the incorrect version for their computers e.g. downloading the x64 version for a x86 computer so the setup doesn't extract and run.

Microsoft has said they will only provide support to those who have reached the installation window. Any problems before that have to be dealt with the distributor (Digital River).
