Threshers administration - how does it affect me?

My husband works as a manger for threshers which we've just heard is going into administration. This is really bad timing as we have also just exchanged (today) on a new property which is upping our mortgage. Thankfully we have unemployment insurance, but its only covered for the old amount. what can we do?? I work part time and have been told already that the company has frozen our hours and we have 2 small children. truly freaking out - can you suggest anything?

Maybe (hopefully) your DH's job will be OK - I did read that they were going to continue operating as normal and were hoping to sell the business as a going concern. Sorry, don't really have anything else to suggest, apart from your DH getting his CV ready and starting to look for jobs now. What a worry for you, and the worst timing. Best of luck with sorting something out.0

If they do carry on trading, they need to stop those daft rip-off pricings where they charge +50% per bottle and give one "free" if you buy two.
They'd probably get more people in the shop.
If I want one bottle, I'd rather go to the supermarket.0 -
Some of the shops will be bought. Not Again0

Anyone know if it is Threshers alone going into administration or does it include the Local as dd has a job with them which she does when she comes home from uni in the holidays and was hoping to work over Christmas
Thanks for any help - much appreciated

All of the First Quench shops will remain open while a buyer is sought, it is understood. In a statement last night,

As far as I've been told, unfortunately, the "Local" brand is going to be one of the brands they drop if a buyer is found however that's not to say it won't be changed over to a Thresher if it is a profit making store. Maybe thats being optomistic?
We are all waiting for some official news from the horses mouth today.
Thanks for your comment prowla, they really help! I would like to correct your misguided thoughts on how 3 for 2 works by giving you one example:
Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc - Tesco price = £8.99 Thresher price = £9.99 therefore it is only £1 dearer than Tesco and when you buy 3 bottles it works out as £6.66 each which is quite a substantial saving! I have plenty more examples, however, I'm not sure if they matter anymore. I guess we'll find out later today!
I sympathise with the OP, but sometimes redundancy has a silver lining in the fact that its gives you the kick up the bum to aim for something better and I agree with rockporkchop, help him brush up his CV and get out there, that's pretty much what I'll be doing once I find out what the hell is going on!0 -
I heard on the grapevine there will be a further announcement on Monday afternoon about the future of the business ... I am affected by this too ....CARPE DIEMaut viam inveniam aut faciamBe sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour0

I've seen the effect of this...a Threshers at my in-laws (Marple) has been there for years and had a PO next door. PO was closed...and a Spar opened up selling booze at cheap prices, deliberately undercutting the Threshers and not being as vigilant on ID checking. The council rejected objections under competition laws (how, I don't know) and it's annoyed a lot of the locals.
All I can say is best of luck!0
