Immersion help - hot water

Hi guys, I've just moved into a flat, the first time to live on my own, so I'm not really sure what is normal or not. I have a Santon Premier Plus Unvented hot water system. There is not timer, but there are two switches on the wall. One is, I presume, the timed heater, it comes on a couple of times a day for maybe an 30 mins/an hour a time.

The timed one doesn't really give me much hot water, maybe enough for washing up. If I want a shower I have to turn the boost switch on for about an hour, and then I have to have a quick shower or else it starts to run cold. My question is whether this is normal or not? I would have imagined that having it on for an hour would give me more hot water, but like I said, I'm living on my own for the first time, so I'm not too sure.

I don't want to bother my landlord if its to be expected, but at the same time I'm not enjoying having a race with the hot water every time I shower:) Any help would really be appreciated

I don't understand how(what?) "I presume, the timed heater, it comes on a couple of times a day for maybe an 30 mins/an hour a time" if there is no timer.

Many HW tanks have 2 immersion heaters. One just heats a small amount at the top of the tank; this provides enough water for washing up/shaving etc.

The other heats the whole tank.

If your indication that it is coming on "for maybe an 30 mins/an hour a time" is a neon lamp, it could be that it glows when the heater is getting power, and it goes off when the water is hot enough and thermostat on the immersion heater has cut in.
